First 100 Miles
I am happily a bit saddle sore after putting the first 100 miles on my new-to-me 2009 Versys 650 today. I have had my motorcycle license endorsement for 20 years, but spent most of my time on two wheels off-road. Over the last two months I have taken the MSF Basic Rider course (highly recommended to all) and logged about 800 miles on a 250cc scooter primarily commuting to work in the suburbs. I'm loving the experience, so decided to take the plunge on a "real" bike.
My Versys is bone stock with a set of panniers and top case and fresh-ish tires (Michelins with ~2,500 miles). Just what I was looking for. After picking it up this morning, I wound my way to my parents' home across town where my father, a mechanic, and I gave the bike a good going over. Fresh brake fluid, an oil/filter change, tire pressure adjustment, mirror tension tightening, chain slack adjustment and general inspection along with a bit of polishing and bench riding and my confidence in the mechanical state of the bike is high.
I'm looking forward to learning from the community and tweaking the "Grasshopper" (best name candidate so far) to fit me and provide maximum enjoyment and safety.
