Figured it's time to actually join the forum, after all it's been a big help getting me started!
Pics after the wall o text!
I have an 08 in passion red of course. Picked it up with about 28k on it with the last year. I came from a KLR, and when that had a short end of its life from my stupidity, I had a small budget for a new bike. I was familiar with the Versys but I really was trying to avoid it, because I just couldn't get over how funky it looked, although it fit the bill in all other aspects.
Well, after one popped up on the web, complete with luggage and a whole host of Accessories for much less than my budget, I begrudgingly gave it a test drive. It was running a bit rough, quite dirty, and the brakes and tires wernt up to snuff, but it was all there and like a stray dog that just pops up one day, I had to bring it home with me. The love it needed was all stuff that I wanted to learn how to do, and wouldn't break the bank.
Most of winter and summer was spent wrenching and cleaning and upgrading parts, tune up and valve adjustment. I did however manage to get in a track weekend at the tail of summer once it was shiny and good.
Overall, what I'm trying to do is get it to be more communicative. I feel that some of the controls don't give me the "technical" feel I'm really desiring. I need to dial in the suspension, replace the clutch and springs, the control cables and spend more time in the saddle for sure! I also want to throw on some 50:50 tires and go exploring the mountains around my home. There's more fire roads than asphalt here!
It's a really charming bike. It's easy to control, the motor is lively enough, the seating position is comfortable, and it's not too portly (unlike the driver).
Oxford heated grips
Givi Monokey luggage
LED turn signals (these are rubbish, the OEM ones were missing)
EBC slotted front rotors
Core Moto SS brake lines
SW Motech footpegs
T-Rex frame and fork sliders
Sticker bombed swingarm
Happy to answer any questions on the bike or parts. Thanks for having me!
