New to Kawasaki...

Hi guys,

I've been riding dual-sport bikes for the last 15 years. Mostly big 650 singles, but I've also had two years on a BMW R1200GS. The for the last 3 years I've been riding a BMW F800GS. Lovely middelweight jack-of-all trades! I've sold it a month ago because I am relocating to Australia (Melbourne) in the next few weeks.

I am a daily rider, and use my bike for commuting, about 100 km round trip 5 days a week all year round. After a lengthy research process, I have shortlisted the a 2015-2016 Versys 650 (non LAMS) as the next commuter, and I am planning to buy a low km model in Apr if all goes according to plan.

My dad has a first gen Versys, and it has been flawless during the 8 years and 40 000km of ownership. What is a reasonable life expectancy for a well maintained Versys? Would you say I could get 100 000 km using it as a daily commuter?

See you guys around!
Hans

Welcome From Canada

to the forum
As to your question, I live near a large motorcycle wrecker in Ontario Canada, he had one ninja and 1 KLR and no Versys. People on this forum have gone over 100,000, but decided to part out the bike. Maintained properly, I don't see why not.FYI I am looking for something in the same area.

Have fun in Australia (Born in the state of Victoria, now live in the city of Victoria, BC, Canada)

Although I have had Miss Jaffa (Burnt Orange 2007 Versys) for a while, I still have a lot to learn.

These twins should go well over 100,000 miles with proper maintenance. I know of several with no failures. One with a fuel pump failure, and a few stator failures.

Being pre-emptive on maintenance is the key. Don't wait for anything to break.

In 66,000 kms / 41,000 miles my only failures have been a fuel pump and a headlight bulb
