Just sold my 2002 ZRX...
And bought a (new to me) 2009 Versys today, and after a 55 mile introduction ride I'm one happy camper!
Every motorcycle I sell, I miss to some extent or another, the ZRX will not go quietly into the night. It's abundant torque, great riding position and fantastic looks will always be in my heart, however well she danced, and dance well she did, she always reminded you she was a big girl (no offence meant ladies...).
My last road bike was a sweet Ducati 996, IMHO the most beautiful road bike ever, and the sound...... well it's the best twin sound ever. However the "rider triangle" and mechanical complexities of the valve gear conspire to make one a love-hate relationship, hence the ZRX.
Have you ever ridden a competent motorcycle that weighs LESS than you? Not likely, but I also have a 1994 Honda RS125, 43 HP and 153 lbs. A bike like that will teach you a thing or two about weight, or more effectively, the lack of weight and the effect on the riding experience. Ride a bike like that once and everything else begins to look like a Gold Wing with a trailer. My first exposure to the thought of lightweight motorcycles was watching the works Suzuki's of Joel Robert at Saddleback Park in 1970, and the October 1971 issue of Cycle Guide (yeah, I'm 60) with the "Lightweight Weapon" article. Introductions like that will make you think, and watching the 125 GP bikes at Laguna will make you think twice about "How much tire and engine do you need"???
Okay, off the soap box, now how do I find adapters to bolt the $125 eBay Brembo four pads on the Versys?
Gotta have GREAT brakes...........
