Went to look at a house in Poughkeepsie(basically on Vassar College property) and took some backroads to Brewster for some mexican lunch. Shot west toward Carmel through Fahnestock Park. Hit up the jungle of the Goat Trail (hikers and vehicles galore.. This happens in NY when we start getting 80 degree days, and Sunday to boot!). Ripped up Perkins Drive and saw some really cool bikes. Super Tenere, GS800 which I hardly ever see, a super rare Ducati Monster edition, about 10 FJR, one of 200 Ducati Monster M1100 Evo 20th Anniversary (so sexy) Finished with a more spirited ride up Storm King Mountain to the homestead.
Cops were everywhere (Park Police) with bikes and cars pulled over. The Bear Mountain Circle as well, was jammed up. A lady with her head buried in a phone and driving a big Tahoe was awoken by really loud exhaust screams, and then another car came sailing off the Palisades without yielding. The latter of which became the car in front of me the entire way up Perkins Drive, and when I confronted them by politely saying that they pulled right into the circle and cut motorcyclists off, that the people IN the circle have the right away. I guess because they had Scandinavian accents they must not know any better on how to their eyes properly to traffic signs or other vehicles.
I think I found a decent route planner. Each mouse click sets a way point. (straight lines, but whatever) If anybody knows a decent app or how to do this using Google maps, that'd be great. Walkjogrun.net.
I didn't take this, because I was too busy enjoying the bikes and people, but the M1100.
This I took when I first got there, but quickly lost interest in living through a screen on such a gorgeous day filled with bike and car porn.
