following in (SOME) steps of the AZ BDR!

Went for a 180 mile ride yesterday. Windy, but nice day. Headed to Superior, thru this tunnel

to here, where the rock formations look like the Hoodoos I saw in Banff,

then into the town of Miami. Heading into the down-town antiques area I noticed (for the first time...) this old church

[

that's being restored, then parked for a pic in front of this "saloon".

Another few miles E, thru the town of Globe, then SW on AZ 77 where an off-road riding area is beside the intersection between AZ 70 and 77.

At the highest point on 77 there's a rest area on the S side of it where I chatted w/ another rider, on an older Honda 400 twin, and took a pic of this cairn detailing the time that Kit Carson guided General Kearny's army thru here in the 1840s.

Riding downhill toward the town of Christmas and Winkelman, the views are incredible

and the thought hit me that I could journey into PART of the AZ BDR which I'd ridden w/ jdrocks back on 27th October, towards where I had a "bike-down" moment, for a few miles.

I rode in several miles, then, realizing that I did NOT have anyone to help me IF I laid BIG RED down (as I HAD had in October...), I found a place large enough to do a "180", and headed back.

Continually taking pics, of course...

even stopping to take an "arty" shot of my V...

and this one looking back UP the hill I was riding down....

Soon after that shot I was back onto pavement, thru Winkelman and heading N to the Florence-Kelvin Highway (dirt...) where I saw this rather unusual "crested saguaro"

then rode some more dirt

before again hitting pavement, then home.

GOOD ride...!

Current conditions in London: Temp -25 C, wind chill -39 C. (That's -13 & -38.2 for the Farenheit crowd) Windy as hell and lake effect snow squalls with no visibilty.

Thank you for posting beautiful, sunny, warm pictures of motorcycle riding. I think I hate you a little bit. Sorry, that's just the cabin fever talking. The pics are great. Reason to live...

Thanks

Another stellar report with fine photos. Much appreciated by this "legal" Floridian frustrated because he is currently incarcerated with twin-toddler grandchildren outside Minneapolis. Minnesota should be spelled "UGHHHHHH!"

I made a comment about turning around because I was riding alone, and my concerns about 'going down' way out there....

Went riding in the desert yesterday. Came across some hard sand into some DEEP, very soft sand and went down (slow speed). Didn't think of taking a pic while it was down, but went back and took two after. Pic 1 shows the transition (I went down just past that FAR bush - you can see the "slewing" of my front wheel in the sand), while pic 2 shows the "slewing" better, just past the cactus.

Riding alone on trails - NOT A GOOD IDEA!!!

Spectacular photos once again. And very good advise regarding being alone in the dirt away from civilization. Time passes very, very slowly when in trouble way out in the toolies.
