Recently went on a little weekend 725 mile jaunt in Alaska to an old abandoned mining town on the end of a 65 mile long dirt/gravel road. This was a test run for my V which is 90% outfitted for the next BIGGER ride to Dawson City Yukon Canada (it should be 1200 miles plus when it's all said and done)
A few pics:
The LARGE hulking building in the background is the main mine building that was basically abandoned when the company up and left one day many many years ago. Now it's a tourist attraction and part of the Wrangell St Elias National Park;
Almost back to the pavement riding above the Copper River near Chitna:
We stopped at Worthington Glacier on the way to Valdez. There was still snow in the visitors center parking lot:
This is a $65 THOUSAND Dollar sign that was built last year outside of...
The end of the pavement for the next 65 miles. It was pretty rough in some parts:
There is NO FUEL in McCarthy so this is the LAST fuel stop for 165 miles roundtrip to and from...
The end of the spit near the old Valdez townsite
THIS is the end of the Richardson Highway on the far end of Valdez
It was much nicer the day we left Palmer, this is the Matanuska Glacier in the background
My friend's neighborhood in Valdez, too bad there isn't any nice scenery near by:
A hand cut railroad tunnel nearthe highway
Noah goofing off
The aftermath of the mining.
Bridal Veil falls
AVERY cool bridge that was 238 feet above the river below...
That had an even cooler walking bridge underneath
It was very safe but a bit scary being that high up
And THEN we did THIS........
The bike did amazing the whole trip and we had a blast. And finally here is a video my riding partner made. With footage from his and Joe's GoPro's.
