I was stationed at Port Who Needs Me from 1988 to 1991. I had a 1986 VF500F Interceptor. What an awesome bike for the canyons. Every chance I'd get I'd be riding down the PCH to Decker Canyon 23. Man I loved that piece. I had friends in Thousand Oaks I'd stop at for a quick soda or water, then head back down again and either repeat or find Mulholland, Malibu, Gorge, etc. North of Decker Canyon was Deer Creek south of Point Mugu NAS. Deer Creek was almost always vacant of traffic on a weekday afternoon. Heck, even Decker was mostly clear on weekends. The corners were too tight for car drivers. There were always hubcaps in the ditches along the shoulder. Its been so many years. Those roads were still relatively unpolluted with residential development. I've been told I'd never recognize them now. I still think about traveling down to find out. I can always watch facetube to see squids crashing their R6s around some corners.
