Ed,

You went to Alaska. I guess Ushuaia is much more easy.

makinwaves,

When I get to Ushuaia I realize that the Versys is a very great bike.
The dirt part is this one: http://goo.gl/maps/qGFYB
And you have 30km of concrete, so the dirt is reduced to 100km.
A lot of vehicles use this track, so they create a hard surface where they pass. Riding in this hard path is very easy, and the Versys went very well, even with road tires (pilot road 3). Off course it is easier in the straights, but turns could be a problem, depending on your speed.

I made the trip from Texas to Alaska on a KLR. I am toying with the idea of taking the Versys Ushuaia.

My concern is the various border crossings, particularly in Latin America, where there is talk about having to bribe the guards, as well as stare down the barrels of their assault rifles....

And some mud....

Ed,

Bribery should not be a problem at borders crossing. I heard that could be a problem at RN12, from Buenos Aires to north.
When I went to Atacama, in 2009, some guards asked me to give a "contribution", but I just pretended that I did not understand.
