Thumbs up 3 days.1200mls.5 States.New record!

Well, my new mileage record is 560mls in one day!!
I can't say it was all enjoyable, but the 80mph dash in the dark to get home at a pre-determined time got my sphincter twitching !!!
I enjoy my 250ml quick bimbles in between sight seeing, coffee'n'burger haunts & just smelling the air!! That's what motorcycling is to me, mile munching is for folks on a mission or they're just out to prove something or impress people!
Anyway, day 1 was to leave Missouri via Arkansas then to Memphis Tennessee, home of Elvis,MLK,& The Blues!
Downtown Beale St is great, & at night it's a neon show of lights of which most are attached to the Bling-Bling motorcycles.
Next day was an easy 300+mls to the Barber Motorcycle Museum In Leeds, which is just East of Birmingham Alabama.(see video)
I couldn't decide where to next, because even after asking "the locals", no one came up with any "must visits" in the area, so I thought I'd head back towards the Mississipi River Delta region (not The Delta at the southern end)
How bloody flat & boring that was, & the only suggestion any locals there could come up with was to go & visit the casino!!!FFS!!!
So I thought l'd save $60-$100 on accommodation & set myself a personal record, so that day I crossed Alabama, then Mississipi, then headed up Arkansas to home in southern Missouri.
Oh, just as a thumbs up to me, I'm SO glad I fitted my Tom Tom GPS that I have only ever used in the motorhome or truck, it was a Godsend when going through Memphis/Brimingham/Little Rock & even took me to the doorstep of the 'bike museum after punching in the lat/long coordinates.
Anyway, here's the video of the museum visit:

Sounds like a nice trip. Careful with that sphincter twitching.

Ah, the old sphincter twitch, or "ST" as it's commonly known.

I don't see how some riders accomplish the Iron Butt thing . . . 1,000 miles in 24 hours. I guess a lot has to do with the bike, butt (pun intended) when I spend too much time in the saddle, my body, and perhaps more importantly, my mind, let's me know. And I find riding tired is NOT something that's good to do.

Regarding the GPS . . . how did we do it without it! Isn't it incredible how they can guide you to your destination?! And if you decide to detour (or for that matter, take a wrong turn) you'll hear "Recalculating."

Using/having the GPS has definitely made me more adventurous. Although I learned the hard way to still carry the old fashion map/written directions. On one ride, my GPS went to sleep . . . and never woke up! Kinda like Grandpa!

There's a 24 hour ride in Alberta, in the winter, on ice/ snow. The winner is whoever does the most laps, so 1,000 miles happens!

Cool museum. Been by there dozens of times just never took the time to stop. Thats a good ride on a stock seat. My longest on the stock seat was over 700 miles in about 13.5 hours and my butt was sore.

I have a seat pad that I use for the 1st 150mls on any given day, then revert to my stock seat which has been raised 1&1/2" at the front bracket & has had some cloth stuffed into the front holes to raise the forward profile. When l'm using just the seat & no pad I also slide my butt backwards onto the rear hump which prolly looks crazy to oncoming drivers but it takes the weight off your knees & stretches your arm & back muscles as well as some butt relief!

I also just did the maths after filling her up again & I got just over 50mpg using mostly freeway speeds averaging 70mph & the whole 3 day 2 night journey including 2 motels/food/some beer & entry fee came to a miserly $225!!!!

You should check out the Motowerk Highway Peg Mounts and some highway pegs. Makes a longer ride way more comfortable..I use mine all the time.
