Thumbs up new-to-me 2012 Versys ...

Purchased this black/black 2012 six days ago from a nice fellow in Olympia...about a 60 mile highway shot from Seattle. 4800 miles. It's mechanically bone stock but has these 5 tasteful (IMHO) and functional mods done by the seller: Givi tall screen; HID bulb for the headlight (check out that blue light); barkbusters; rear tire hugger (quite trick looking and made with very nice materials I think); and reflective red stripe on the wheels to add a little spice to all of that black. So far I've put on a couple of hundred miles...I've noticed some vibrations (not sure where they're coming from yet...gotta remind myself that this is a twin with 'character' not an in-line 4!)--noticed most passing through 4500-5000rpms especially in 2nd gear and then they're gone (which, frankly, I can live with I believe); and a very-slightly-sloped-into-the-tank seat make things a bit interesting...otherwise I really, really, really dig how this thing rides! I'm about 6'5'' and honestly I've never been more comfortable on a bike (except maybe my two-tone banana seater when I was 8). Cheers!

Hi SS................

2012 black on black are the fastest & best looking types of Versys, & maybe the best motorcycle in the W H O L E World!!!

Who did the red on the wheels & how is it done?

The seat does put your family jewels in an "interesting" position, & I am contemplating whether to get my local upholsterer to remedy this or just buy a strap over pad.

Keep putting on the miles mate, it's getting towards the famous PNW rainy/monsoon season!!!

Britmick, the seller did the red stripe...it appears to be a red reflective type tape...seller told me he bought a kit for it through some cycle website though I don't know the details....kind of switches from red to orange/red depending on the light....up close it looks pretty well done and not too far from something that might be a stock touch.

Check for threads about raising the front of the seat. Mine are up 9/16" for about $2.

Make a lateral piece (below the top stack, and above the low stack) for the 'nose' of the seat to go over, two longer bolts, several washers.

Thanks for the mod pics....but the more I'm riding the stock seat the more I think it ain't too bad...I scoot my skinny butt back against the passenger bump and that seems to mostly do the trick

So I decided to remove the red tape pinstripe on the wheels (there when I bought it). What a pain in the a** job!.....first just tried to peel it....heck no, it's equal parts brittle and stubborn on top and a nightmare of unholy adhesion on the bottom....then got some Goof Off....too strong and might peel the paint....then got Goo Gone and some other tape removing solution and doused it and started picking away using various plastic edged scrapers.....could never get an edge that would peel any significant portion....finally used my dremel with a polishing cotton pad attachment on high speed...and after almost two hours, at least a dozen polishing heads, and tons of Goo Gone and elbow grease/fingernail scraping..........perfect, shiny black rims just like they came out of the factory. But what a pain. Doh.

Here's the latest updated version of my baby V. Can you spot the 5 changes from the originally posted pic?

That tail tidy is particularly nice. Your black-on-black 2012 is basically what I think I'd like to get, m'self. Just not quite ready yet.

1-5 are correct though I'd forgotten about the swingarm bobbins!....I was counting new tires too....so I guess there are actually 6 tweaks.
