Caught in White-Out conditions near Chattanooga

The pucker factor was intense as the snow piled up almost 3 inches between exits on I 59 northbound just north of the AL Ga line Saturday. Visibility dropped to 50 feet or so at the same time Three of the 5 in the group ended up down in the snow. We eventually got safe and waited for a break in the weather.
Side notes: 1)Riding boots don't make good traction in the snow. It took three of us to move the heavier BMW's and keep them and everybody upright. 2) Michelin Pilot Road 3's are very poor snow tires

Hmmm. Motorcycles don't make very good snowmobiles, it seems. Hopefully nothing and no one was damaged.

Darn it, all we have here is a sunny 25 degrees C and the occasional light shower.

Glad you are ok! That can be bad no joke!

You know when a guy rides with possible bad weather?

Has anyone tried those cables? You tighten them on to the tire and you can only go about 25 or 30 but a guy might be able to get out of the weather?

If they come loose it we mess your day up!

Re: Caught in White-Out conditions near Chattanooga

Glad you came through that. I've hit snow a couple times on a bike...that is plenty.

Reminds me of one a my college roommate. He was from Egypt, had never seen snow and was in Massachusetts for school. The first storm of the season led to a state of emergency, big deal even for New England. He could not understand why people were driving so slowly. "It is no different than sand." He changed his tune when we pummeled him with snowballs.

I do recall riding a Honda SL-125 through an entire winter in Virginia... rain/sleet/snow/dry... but it was only around 240 lbs. I remember sometimes coming to a halt or starting up on an icy/snowy street with both legs straight out to the side, feet on the pavement - like outriggers.

White helmets didn't help much with staying visible either!
