First ride of 2019......

Did a loop through the southern Black Hills, about 50 miles. Just enough to warm up the bike and cool me off. A bit of snow and ice in front of the shop door but I crossed it cautiously. The only other hazard was two very large buffalo in the middle of my lane coming through Wind Cave NP. I eased by them slow and quiet......with them eyeballing me the entire way. I would have been very nervous on my previous bike (1500 Kawi Classic with a black bat wing fairing and noisy exhaust). All in all a decent winter ride.

Sorry, no pics, it was way too cold to mess with taking off the gloves and using a phone.

Wow, that would have given me the pucker factor. I had a big bull run alongside me on one of the rural roads out here. I was praying he was staying right as I eased my bike left. Good to read they stood their ground.

It's been swell, but the swelling has gone down.

I've ridden thru buffalo herds several times on the Alcan Hwy, and just N of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon [which ALSO included a stampede!] a few years ago.

SCARY!

Herds of Buffalo with calves in Custer State park when I rode through there. Pictures in one of my links below. When the cars started putting pressure on them it was time to get out of there.

The other domestic animals I have run across on the road include herds of cows, errant calfs, sheep, goats, colts, chickens, pigs wondering how they ended up on the wrong side of the fence. Always a fun time!

Yeah, any critter on the road is unpredictable but wildlife seem to be worse. Turkeys are truly horrible, which way are they going to go and then are they going to run or fly? The large stuff with horns can be truly dangerous.
