Yesterday's ride was such a NON EVENT
that I decided to go for another, but this time ramp it UP a bit
by heading to Globe, then N on AZ 188 to the "Young Road", AZ 288.
I KNEW I'd find lots of twisties, plus the altitude goes from about 1,400' ASL at home to around 6,500' ASL at the spot where AZ 288 becomes a dirt (mud?) road, and you don't need to spend TOO MUCH time going straight, so I just concentrated on enjoying the ride while keeping a good look-out for frost and snow in the shaded areas.
Up to Globe on AZ 60, then turned N onto 188, and then E onto 288.
THIS is more like it!
And now we're climbing - YAY!
But w/ altitude the temperature DROPS, so now I was seeing snow and keeping a 'conservative line', especially thru the right-turns where the shade covered the road.
My heated jacket liner was set on MEDIUM heat, my heated grips MEDIUM too, so I was alright...!
I got to the highest part where pavement turns to dirt (MUD!) for the rest of the way to Young, about 6,500' ASL - but I FORGOT to cross-check w/ my GPS...
, so I can't confirm the altitude,
and then, another gratuitous pic of BIG RED
then I turned around, heading down the hill to a good spot for lunch.
