Africa

Pulled a Forest Gump today. Gump took off running and just kept going. Ran clear across the USA and back before it was over.

Would you believe me if I told you I took off on a lunch ride and ended up in Africa?

Take a look at the photos and you decide.

Knew I should have bought that Africa Twin...Lol.

Somehow my response ended up being posted twice. I edited the original and apparently clicked the magic button. The result was two of the same! Anyway, I changed the original to this dubious explanation because I couldn't figure out how to delete the original (which was this). Confused yet?

Regardless, what I meant to say is now post #6 below. Ah, technology in the hands of an old guy! Watch out you unsuspecting souls. Brace for ram!!

I might believe it except for all the fences. We spent two weeks over Christmas (Dec 1995) in Botswana when our daughter and husband were in the Peace Corps and didn't see a fence the entire time we were there.

We did see zebra, giraffe, lions, antelope of all shapes and sizes, wart hogs, a gazillion monkeys, a five legged elephant and, most fascinating of all, hippos. Why? Because they have generally bad attitudes when it comes to humans, teeth that are sharp enough to eat bamboo, and can run at speeds up to 35 mph. I can't and never could, but I was surprised just how fast I could move when the need arose.

The best advice our guides gave us while touring the Okavango Delta was, "When I say run away, you run away very fast." On two occasions he did not have to repeat himself! Great fun.

Having flown Hawker jets for a number of years, whenever I hear about Botswana I always think about the following event that happened to the president of Botswana while flying in his Hawker. Thank God we don't have to deal with this kind of stuff flying in the US.

That had to have been an exciting time for all. Strikes me Angolan rules of engagement are slightly lacking. If the president of a neighboring country is flying to your country for a meeting, it isn't a particularly good idea to shoot him down, I would think.

I do think it's amusing that the second missile attacked the falling engine. I wonder what kind of algorithm the missile system had? Aim for falling stuff? Or maybe it decided the engine wasn't dead yet?

Heat seeking missiles for sure, the backup locked on the same signal as the first. The President of Botswana must be very grateful that the Angolan Air Force could not afford radar guided missiles!

Or perhaps it was the commencement of negotiations. "We have saved our radar guided missiles for if we do not get what we want."
