Apache Trail - Morning ride

I took a few hours on Saturday morning and rode the scenic Apache Trail here in Arizona. The Apache trail starts out in Apache Junction and winds its way through the Superstition mountains. The Apache trail is about a 100 mile round trip from here in Mesa. The road is mostly dirt and passes 3 beautiful lakes. Canyon Lake, Apache Lake and Lake Roosevelt.
Will do again!!!

Ah yes, Apache Junction. I recall my father getting a speeding ticket either in, or very near, there at 4:00 AM many years ago (as in before interstates) while we were traveling cross country in the summer before automotive air conditioning was commonplace.

I never let him forget it, especially when I became a new teen aged driver and wanted to use hs car. Gee dad, I haven't had a speeding ticket, have you? Oh yes, it was in Apache Junction wasn't it?

Thank you so much for sharing these. They are awesome. My grandparents used to have a house in Apache Junction, back when it was out in the middle of nowhere. Spent many summers visiting them and occasionally we would drive the Apache Trail. Have not been on it in 30 years or so, and your pics brought back many great memories.

IF you want to add a 'little' more pizazz to it, next time - at Roosevelt Dam turn right onto 188 and head about half-way towards Globe to 288 on your left. Nice twisty rising road to about 6500' (25 miles?) where it becomes dirt (for the ride to Young) but you can turn around and it's as much fun down as up.

That wild looking canyon about the half-way point up 288, between you and Roosevelt Lake, is a GREAT place for a lunch stop and explore.

Another "goodie" is just above Apache Lake Marina turn, on the south of 88 and west of the Apache Lake Marina turn, dirt road going south and up to a great view point over the lake. Can't remember the name, but it's "something ranch road" I believe.

Wanna ride it with me next fall when I'm back down there?

Ed
