Wink Went for a little first ride...2600 miles!

Well, I picked up the 09 Versys in Yucca Valley and got right on the road with it, wanting to head where it might be warmer. Well somehow, I ended up touring through Phoenix to Lordsburg NM, TorC NM, Taos NM, Moab UT, Cedar City UT, Las Vegas NV, Carson City, NV and then back to Sacto.

Did the break-in 600 miles at 5000-6000 rpms then got to really ride it! I had it's first service done in Albuquerque at 800 miles. Seemed like a good way to give the bike a go!

I froze my arse off for the most part but the bike handled magnificently!

Here are a couple of teaser pix and links to the entire ride report on my blog.

I am really loving my new bike!!

From a clean windscreen to well, not so much...

Great "little" get-to-know-the-bike ride!

I believe it was Bilbo Baggins who said something like, "You have to be careful when you walk out the door because you never know where your "feet" will take you."

Beautiful country but the snow wouldn't have excited me very much - brrr!

Good gawd those side bags are SEXY - REALLY wish I had gotten a green bike now.

What bags are they? Can I get a red set for my '08?

So what color do you have?? I must say, i think it looks damned sexy in green and the side bags were a great choice. Now let the farkling begin!

My list thus far...
handguards
better windscreen
heated grips
12V plug for jacket

And...i need a new avatar!!

After a few rides without my heated gear, and WISHING I'd worn it, I wear the jacket liner, sometimes plugged in, sometimes not, sometimes ON, sometimes OFF, and if it gets really warm, I take it off and saddle-bag it. Done that on a 31 day Alaska jaunt, as well as a 3-day AZ and NM ride last November.

Cold doesn't take long to sap your energy.

GREAT write-up Girl!

Ed

Great R.R., Donna. Capital Reef NP & highway 12 are indeed a treat. I got a taste of it this past fall. Thanks for sharing. So are you keeping the bike?

I am doing great. Got a 3 day ride, next weekend, with the SBR gang. We will go south, and do all the twisty roads that surround the Carizzo Plain. Working on a trip to Mexico in September. Wish I could ride more, especially dirt, but stupid work gets in the way.
The Versys is indeed a fun bike. I'm guessing a bit more nimble than your B12. Not quite the grunt, though. The Meta-Flake Green reminds me of dune buggies from the 70's . . . .or perhaps old speed boats.
Say Hi to Gary.

Mine is the '08 in Red. I have the Givi side bags - but REALLY like those color matched factory ones.

If your Givi's are V-35's you can get panels to match the factory paint.

You can't get them for the 08 from Givi or Kawasaki. You have to pull the panels off and paint them yourself.

Looks like a great ride! Glad you are enjoying your V.

Steve

I bought a motorcycle because my wife said that I couldn't! Now I have two and she still says I can't have another one!
