Riding the hills around Roanoke - pics & vids

Back in June I trailiered the Versys up to Roanoke, VA on a business trip. On Friday afternoon I did about 100 miles solo from Troutville heading north up to Natural Bridge, over to the Blue Ridge Parkway, and then south back to Roanoke & Troutville. Here are some obligatory "beauty shots" from the Parkway:

Saturday I met up with one of the guys I work with and two of his friends. All three ride CBR's .....600 all the way up to 1000. Needless to say, the ride on Saturday was intense but awesome for me and the V. We covered about 250 miles south and west of Roanoke. Major POI's included Bent Mountain, Meadows of Dan for some pinto beans and cornbread, Lover's Leap, and Potts Mountain. I captured about 5 hrs of video with my GoPro and condensed that down to two 15 minute videos. I haven't figured out how to imbed the vids yet so here are the old fashioned links to Vimeo for the videos:

and here are some random pics from the Saturday ride....

Haha, you went all around me! Christiansburg is smack dab in the middle of your circle! Glad you had a good time.

Right you are Capn K....when I went back and looked at the gps track there was Christiansburg right smack dab in the middle of the track. I sure am jealous of the country that surrounds you. Beautiful farm land and wonderful roads. I was thoroughly impressed with the condition of the roads also...clean on the pavement and the shoulders and nice smooth asphault....no pot holes and pavement cracks where we road.

Hope to get back up there soon....

Very fortunate to live where I do. Lots of great curvy mountainous roads with great beauty all around. I made a 150 mile ride yesterday and then again today going different places each day.

I see you made it to Paint Bank. Did you happen to poke your head inside The Swinging Bridge Restaurant? I bet so. There ain't much in Paint Bank. A very interesting place to eat. The food is OK, but the decor is outstanding. Gotta check out the restroom while you are there. Trust me.

Just finished your videos. Well done sir! I answered my own question. I see you finished your second video at The Swinging Bridge.

You make me want a video camera......

Thanks for sharing!

I recognized a lot of those roads. I actually rode 221 & Bent Mountain into Roanoke today! Small world.

Where was this taken?

Capn K - actually I didn't make it inside the Swinging Bridge...we just took a short breather after climbing Pott's Mountain then turned around and headed back to Roanoke.

The "dam picture" was taken on the Blue Ridge Parkway on my Friday solo trip. It's Otter Lake Dam...(north of Roanoke) probably around mile marker 63, just north of where the BRP crosses the James River.

Oh, too bad. Really neat, even if you don't stay to eat. You need to walk around inside and check it out!

Thanks for telling me where you took the dam picture! Don't get North of Roanoke on the BRP, usually South and farther South. Need to press further North and see some new terrain! My wife is a photographer and she wants to go check it out.

FYI....the opening scenes in the first video during "Chariots of Fire" were filmed at Otter Creek Dam and the BRP near there.

A bunch of people gathered around our Valkyries at Paint Bank last
year and asked for the nickle trick... I love doing that...

You can find some real pig-trails in that area
