Weekend Trip to Assatleague Island

Hi All -

Went to the shore over the weekend and went to Assateague Island off of Ocean City Md - Beautiful spot with wild horses and nature everywhere...

The bike did great - I must say that I installed MarkII mirrors and they are 100% better than the stock mirrors, AND they were under $20.00 total from Amazon including shipping. Much greater viewing area...vibrates very little (I could actually tell the make of the car coming up!)

Here are the pics. The bike provided 52mpg with mostly highway riding between 65 and 75mph

Lots of salt and sand, and occasionally ice. Took a detour down a country road and almost bit it - chucks of ice frozen in the shade of the road. Kept her up and stopped, comtemplated my good fortune, got the shakes out of my hands and kept going.

What are you using as far as cold weather gear? I'm in Indiana and riding a bit today in <30 degree temps.

Thermal underwear,
Lined (but will zip out) Fieldsheer one piece
Olympia Reflective yellow vest
Thick socks and Alpinestar boots
Shoei helmet with the pin visor (no fogging - it works great)
HEDz neck warmer (great, keeps wind from coming up the helmet and cheap)
OEM windscreen down low (no chest wind) and Mike's shield up high

...but the most important piece is heated grips and powermadd grip/mud guards (my hands get cold easily). I can't even begin to tell you how much the guards have made a difference in warmth by protecting my hands from the wind. Without them the heated grips can't keep up with the real low temps -

I suspected about as much. I still don't have heated grips or guards, and it's my hands that are the problem. I'll make sure they're taken care of for next fall. Thanks for sharing.
