Once AGAIN I miss-set my clock by the hour it should have been set FORWARD...!
Had a good restful night, getting underway at 0930 (WHICH "time-zone"???
...), but there was MASSIVE road work on the TCan Hwy till Dryden, then it was merely a "now-and-then" issue.
Saw my ONLY set of moose on this 'leg' - a cow and calf crossed a few hundred yards in front of me - altho' during the REST of the ride thru ON, QC, NS and NB I saw MANY very large bloodstains on the road which I'm pretty sure were the result of someone hitting one! There are MANY signs saying that moose are a night-time danger, so watch out...!
As I was coming into the Thunder Bay region, getting low on gas, I planned a stop at a PetroCan station that my GPS was directing me to. Trouble was - it's a "card-lock" station - and then my GPS led me on a 'merry chase' to another station, but when I got to the location there was NOTHING...!
I carry a few litres of gasoline (for my stove), so I pulled over and put them into the tank, then found a REAL gas station a few more kms ahead of that place.
Just up the hwy N from Thunder Bay is the memorial to Terry Fox, an inspirational man who, after losing his leg to cancer, started his "Marathon of Hope" in Newfoundland, whereby he ran a MARATHON every day till he finally couldn't, at this spot, then was taken to hospital where he died. An incredibly courageous man!
Out in the bay is a rock formation called the "Sleeping Giant" which you can see in this pic.
From there I continued along the road just above Lake Superior
(it USED to be almost touching the lake along its northern shore, but - PROGRESS - NOW you hardly see the lake at all, but I'm sure the long-distance truck drivers LOVE it...), until I found an Ontario Provincial Park campground at Rossport, purporting to be "on" a lake. Turned into the MO$T expensive tent site of the trip at $36 and change, and, altho' the site-map showed the lake as being beside my site, it WASN'T!
I spent half an hour just getting to where I got those two pics of it. Oh well....
Once the tent was up, and I had a cup of "B'n'B" (bourbon and branch) in my hand, the day looked PDG!
Today had added 664 kms in 9 hrs 45 mins, making the six-day total on my GPS at 3172.0 kms (1971 miles).
