A classic fall ride in BC

Hi All

This morning I headed out for what will probably be my last ride for the season - my Insurance runs out in 24 hours and I had an end of season service done yesterday.

This morning was "Crisp" or was that outright "Cold"? It was 3.5C / 38F at home, but it dropped to 1C / 34F as I headed into the mountains.

I went up the Sea to Sky Highway to Squamish, hung a left at Brackendale and followed Squamish Valley Road / Squamish River Road (it has several names). It is in Destination Highways as TE-A to DH28 in BC.

The fall colours were stunning and the road perfect! It had been repaved in the past week or two so it was like riding on silk.

I would like to do it on a Road Bicycle (Hi Madone) as it was 30+ kms / 20+ miles each direction of winding country road, few cars and a max 100' elevation.

Hi JD - I included a river shot just for you!

Although I have had Miss Jaffa (Burnt Orange 2007 Versys) for a while, I still have a lot to learn.

Great pics, thats is crisp or a bit fresh as i would say, once your down to anything under 4 c your at fridge temp. At 1 c you would have to be wary of ice forming

Glad you took advantage of a beautiful day, thanks for sharing the pics.
You just carry insurance for the "Season" up there?

There was a lot of frost around (as per the photos) but as it was the first cold night I wasn't too worried about ice on the road.

The thought of black ice in the morning on the way to work was one of the reasons the bike is now off the road (see next post)

Correct - I bought the bike in Nov 2009 and put '2 day' plates and insurance on it to get it to the dealer and home. Miss Jaffa spent last winter on the T-Rex's in a heated garage, being patted every time I went past.

I then put real plates and insurance on it in Feb 2010 and paid for 8 months.

I thought about 9 month's cover but as my Australian driving record didn't transfer to ICBC* so I am treated like a 20 y.o., i.e. I now have 3 years driving record - which is only a 15% no claim bonus. Insurance is about $100 PER MONTH.

9 moths would have taken me past Halloween, and I always have our snow tires on by then, so it would have been a contradiction to keep riding the V. I live approx 1,000 ft above sea level - if anybody knows the car park to Grouse Mountain, I am on the same contour line.

* Insurance Corp of BC - a govt monopoly re compulsory insurance.

Damage / theft insurance is OK at $350 for 12 months.

Short term insurance (8-11 months) is only 2% more than pro-rata full year insurance plus $10 admin fee. 3 - 7 months is plus 2.5% plus $10.

Although I have had Miss Jaffa (Burnt Orange 2007 Versys) for a while, I still have a lot to learn.
