South West Virginia Ride

I did 800 miles for work this past weekend and took a couple of days on the way back to do some camping. I was in Lebanon and Abingdon Virginia for work but from there I took Route 58 from Abingdon over to Collinsville and from Collinsville turned north on a bunch of back roads up to Floyd Virginia. Floyd has a really nice art, hippie, and folk music scene. It also has really great food and coffee. Its worth a trip to visit just by itself. From there after stocking up for dinner and breakfast I headed for the Blue Ridge Parkway which is about 8 miles from Floyd. The Parkway unlike the Skyline Drive is 45 mph and less traffic even with the Fall Foliage craziness. I stay away from the Skyline Drive because its 35 mph and bumper to bumper. Also speed traps every few miles. Anyway that area of South West Virginia especially route 58 from Abingdon to Collinsville is prefect for touring and camping. Best trip of the year. Photo is at Otter Creek Campground on the BRP.

I live about 30 minutes from Floyd. Lots of great roads in the area. Glad you had a good trip through.

I know the area well. Beautiful country. I have a small cabin on 14 acres in Giles county Virginia. I've not been back there in quite a long time. This is the part of the year when I miss it the most!

Where is Giles county? I think I remember seeing that on a sign down below Roanoke. It is worth going back but unless work takes me back I wont be able to make it back until the spring
