some AZ scenics...

Last Tuesday I decided it was time for a longer ride (altho' NOT a LO-O-ONG ride by any means!), so I 'saddled-up' then headed to Apache Junction to join the Apache Trail (AKA AZ 88). On the way I decided that I would take MOSTLY 'panoramic' pics, to try to show how beautiful this state is, for those who've not yet ridden here, altho' FIRST I want to apologize that the camera's 'panorama' mode leaves a LOT to be desired (you can see 'gaps' throughout the transitions).

I stopped where the view of the Superstition Mountain from the Lost Dutchman State Park was saying "take ME!".

A few miles into the Apache Trail you come onto Canyon Lake (Tortilla Flat's just over the next hills)

and here's Tortilla Flat, permanent residents number about THREE.

Several miles further E the pavement ends, and 26 miles of dirt 'washboard' (sometimes called "stutter-bumps") takes over,

first via the Fish Creek Hill

(and here's the view E from the start of the STEEP section)

w/ this view at the bottom where it crosses Fish Creek

A few miles E you begin to see Apache Lake to your left...

w/ these 'hills' nearer the road

As the 'trail' approaches the Roosevelt Dam, these vistas appear

and I was NOW following a grader (taking out some washboard......)

Another mile or so and the road again turns to pavement, the Dam passing, and the "Rainbow Bridge" w/ Lake Roosevelt coming into view.

Here are some views of the bridge, AZ 188 passing thru it

Lake Roosevelt commanding your attention all the way to the N horizon....

From there I had a very nice hour and twenty minute ride back to Florence, and home, a total of 160 miles over five hours and 40 minutes.

Nice! Somebody just flipped the switch to "Winter" over here and I'm staring (in disbelief) at this year's first snow fall. And it's a doozie. So, Thank You Eddie for the little virtual vacation! It was easy on the eyes.

The wife and I were in Az two years ago when we first retired. It is a picturesque state with some great riding. Personally, I liked Yuma.

The North Cascades Highway, Highway 20, is officially closed for the season now.
Glad you got some rain to help keep the dust down.

You must be having a mild winter in the Skagit Valley. I lived there for 22 years and never heard of it closing this late in the year.

Quite a few "DECEMBERS" on the chart. Apparently I wasn't paying as much attention as I thought.
