Yeah, why spend the money to get it certified if not to sell it here? C'mon Kawasaki!

They should have put a shaft and cruise control if they want to compete with the other semi-adventure bikes like the new Tiger Adventure. If I replace the Versys, it will be with a bike that has shaft drive, ABS, etc. Plus true dirt road capability.

I was excited when I saw they tested it. And then I saw it was 49 state regulation. If and when it does make it to the states, hopefully California will get it a year later.

Joseph - I'm willing to help you out.... Get it to me in AZ, I'll put 7,000 on it, then you can add the last 500 riding it home to CA!

I'll keep that in mind. Always good to have a back-up plan. But right now i'm leaning toward the Triumph Explorer.

I checked the EPA site and yes it have been approved by EPA. No doubt it is coming. The question is when. A dealership told me to wait until mid Sept to see if it was coming. The way he say it told me it was pretty much certain.

I test rode a Tiger Explorer and a Super Tenere.

The Tiger Explorer is an oustanding road bike with limited off road capabilities. The Super Tenere is a good road bike with excellent (for it class) off road capabilities. Both are contenders for my upgrade choice soon. However, the Versys 1000 might be a game changer. A kitted Explorer is over $17K and the Super Tenere should be around $16K. If the Versys is priced close to the Ninja 1000 it might beat both in value. Yeah, it does not have a drive shaft but I can live with a chain.
