Farkle Reviews Online

Hello Everyone,

I've been a member of this forum for years, and just recently sold my 2007 Versys. My wife and I have just started a new website that is dedicated for farkle reviews, but will also have other stories of interest to all riders.

www.farklemyride.com is the homepage to our new website. Alternately you can find us via facebook . Those who click "like" will get automatic updates when new articles are posted. Here are two sample articles. (1) and (2)

I would invite anyone who has experiences good or bad with motorcycle accessories to contact me via pm on this forum, or off the contact form on my website if they are interested in submitting an article. Articles just need to be submitted in MS Word, and attach all photos and or videos separately. I would love to hear from riders who have installed an aftermarket horn, different windscreens, add-on lighting etc.

Despite selling my beloved Versys, I still find myself back on this forum quite a bit. There is a great group of people here and a lot of experience with regards to maintenance, upgrades, suspension, and touring. I would love to hear from all of you, and am happy to give you a spot to publish thoughts. Just be aware that the new site is not specific to any one brand of motorcycle but is for all riders.

Cheers,

Splitmind
aka Mark DT, one of the moderators of Farkle My Ride.

BTW...all comments on our new website, both good and bad, are most welcome. This is a brand new thing for us. We are new to web publishing, and are pursuing this out of passion for something we both really enjoy. All constructive, brutally honest criticism is welcomed.

Layout

Using the blog type layout will make this much less browsable I feel.

When you go in to accessories, you will eventually just see a huge list of accessories. I think this would be better if you broke it down a bit, then listed by type instead of date (Navigation, Luggage, and so on). I suppose it depends on how many reviews you get as to whether that's viable or not.

I like the idea. Another site that's been around for a while doing it is http://www.motorcyclegear.org/

EDIT: I should note, the above site hasn't had much in the way of updates. It's mostly just been sitting there. I like the layout though :-)

2008 Versys - 37k miles
Givi - V35 Monokey Saddlebags - Large windscreen - Tail rack with v46 trunk
Speedy's - 1" Handlebar risers - Footpeg Lowering blocks
Osram 65W Bright replacements
Kawasaki Handguards
... And the all important gremlin bell, courtesy of my wife.

I 100% agree that as content grows, there will be a need to expand the menu's somewhat. For now, I didn't want menu choices that lead to pages with "coming soon" or no content. In the meantime we do have a search bar located top and bottom of the page to make what you are looking for easy. One of the nice things about working in "WordPress" is as your sites needs change, you can easily change the sites appearance, menu structure, and columns.

More than anything else I hope that I can get some Versys riders to share their product knowledge there.

Cheers,

Splitmind

What about a method by which the review may be submitted in site instead of emailing?

I would love to work to this goal, but initially the reason for email is to protect against slanderous posts, ensure that formatting is consistent, and to be able to dialog with the author prior to the post going live. It isn't a forum, but a review site. I have the ability to get reviews posted directly to the site, but I will limit it to those with prior posts to ensure that we don't spammed etc.

I managed a yachting site years ago and had a direct posting ability for articles. 98% of the users were outstanding, but I spent hours upon hours dealing with the 2% who weren't. Hence why I'm gun shy of allowing direct posting of reviews. (ie. How many Viagra advertisements does one need to remove, before the problem child posters get the hint.)

I was meaning more that they could submit to YOU directly and you could then do the editing, etc (perhaps having the site email you the content).

To make sure you don't get a spam bot, you could simply add one of those picture verification type messages or something similar.

Hmmm....

Sounds rather familiar....ie... http://www.farklefest.com

Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery...they say.

Nice site BTW

Integrity is doing the right thing, even if nobody is watching.

The link you put up appears to be dead?

Being original in the age of the internet isn't easy, but I can say that our biggest inspiration for this site came from Angie's List and Trip Advisor, and thinking how could we make something like that work for motorcyclists. Rather than going the motorcycle review method which is done to death we opted for farkle reviews as there is a void there, and riders' opinions to me are more important than anything else.

Two excellent reviews have been submitted by one member of this forum already.
