Rack for a 2008 V & Tusk panniers

I've been reading about panniers and racks for weeks, and I have several options:

1. Go with the easy option and get the SHAD set for USD $399 (here)
Pros: I know it fits for sure, and it's not very expensive.
Cons: I want panniers that open on top, and, preferably, harder than plastic...

2. Get this Tusk panniers and find a rack that works with them.

And here's where I need help, because I haven't found it in the forum: does anybody have this setup? If so, what's the ideal rack to fit my 2008 V and the Tusk panniers?

3. Get the cheapest rack in the market that fits my bike and build panniers with ammo cans like these (probably bigger...).

And here's my second question: are KLR and Versys' racks compatible?

Thanks very much in advance!

I do not believe the Versys and KLR racks are compatible.

I would think that any rack (SW-Motech EVO, Givi PL-447, etc) that would work with the a non-V35 side case would work with the Tusks. Happy Trails racks and systems (link) might be worth looking at as well.

Yeah, I guess the Happy Trails are probably the safest bet... I will contact them this week to make sure that they'd work...

My suggestion is (are?) the GiVi 447 racks, as they're significantly narrower than the Twisted Throttle ones. Aprox 4"....
