swap: KLR kickstand

while functional, it doesn't make the bike perform better so here it is under cosmetic.

this is my favorite mod of the week. swapped on a 2008 klr kickstand with new spring. the foot is about 3x the surface area of the versys stand, a bit beefier, and sits about 2-3 inches farther out than the versys stand. angle of the lean is unchanged but it is so much more sure-footed even on my sandy yard.

the stock stand would sink in instantly the klr stand not at all.

I'll add a pic later

so it's not longer than a versys side stand?

In a world full of people, only some want to ride. Isn't that crazy?

Are you trying to sell (or swap) the KLR stand for a V stand...?

How many $ for the KLR stand?

no, no... I just swapped a KLR stand on in place of the stock stand. its a nice improvement. I would happily part with the stock stand.

used price was about 25$

its a hair longer, but it places the foot a little farther out to the side.
end result is that the bike sits the same as stock.

how is it to kick down? I notice it doesn't have the little kick pin on it. could you get a picture with it in the up position?

yeah I can do that later.

the stock one is a straight leg with a pin sticking out. this leg jogs to the side just as far as the pin stuck out. so you actually kick down the whole leg rather than a pin. no problems.

too bad we dont have a breaker yard around in my country, and a used KLR stand is out of question unless i get it from ebay.

and if i were to use a klr stand, i'd weld a kick stand pin in. just habit.

good thing I had that new kick stand. the stock one would have sunk into the pavement with this heat and tipped the bike over. this stand the far edge hits first so it sunk in just enough to put the foot flat then it stopped. I already know that parking on coastal sandy soil is a success vs the old stand would sink in instantly and I'd have to hold the bike up while looking for something to put under the foot.
