Modified Passenger Footrest Frame

I've seen many people remove the passenger footrests from the Versys in order to open up the appearance of the tail. I too chose to do this on my Versys streetfighter. I love the way it looks, but my wife likes to ride with me so I knew come spring time I would need them back on. I know it's only 3 bolts, but I didn't want to keep taking the brackets on and off to accommodate a passenger.

I decided to cut off the back half of the footrest frame and weld up a slight modification to retain visual and structural strength. I wasn't worried about reducing the structural integrity. The ninja 650r uses the same frame as the versys without the additional passenger footrest subframe, and still supports the weight of a passenger.

I had a local shop weld up my changes and after a little grinding and painting I'm very happy with the results.
