Anyone hear from the Algard guy since....

Anyone hear from the Algard guy since he announced he was going to stop making his Versys skidplate and shield mount? His website is still up.

When he announced his ending the business I e mailed him hoping to get one of the last five skidplates, but never heard back.

I wanted his skidplate but was delaying ordering one due to my current state of unemployment. I could afford it, but the prudent thing to do was hold off until I was working again. Now I wish I had bought one anyway.

I wonder if he'd consider a group buy, and how many he'd need to make in order to make it worth his while.

Nope, he didn't respond to my note, either. I'm assuming that he was able to sell off the remaining skid plates, and has none left.

The price (as quoted in the "Canadian perspective on Algard" thread) was reasonable, so I'd be willing to participate in a group buy if one were to come up. Given the difficulties some people had in reaching him by e-mail, a group buy via the forum could work out better.

Cheers,
Dave C

This afternoon I sent him an e mail asking if he'd consider a group buy or bulk purchase, and how many he'd have to make in order to make it worth his while.

Now we'll have to wait and see if I get an answer. Also, I seem to remember reading that several people had trouble reaching him by e mail due to his e mail provider blocking certain other e mail providers. (Hopefully not Comcast.)

I've mailed him as well. No response here either.

I would also be interested in a group buy.

I wonder if there were enough of us he would consider making another batch. I really wanted one but procrastinated on it all summer.

I saw his post here about discontinuing production of his skidplate. It was in the Canadian perspective on Algard thread.

I was hoping he'd respond to a query about a group buy because he clearly stated that there were not enough orders. It's also possible that there are other issues he'd rather not discuss, in which case a group buy will not entice him into production again.

If anyone gets ahold of him, I'm in for a group buy of the skid plates. Just got my V 3 weeks ago, and with winter coming in that was one of the first farkles I wanted to add during the off-season.

I've seen people ask this same questions on both UK and German Versys forums, and everybody is sorry that he's not making them anymore.
Also, it was mentioned that there was an issue with his email accounts.
Maybe that's still the case?

Cheers.

Have we considered this?

I would like to have one of these for my '08 Versys. Perhaps someone on this forum has the time, the technical aptitude and mechanical abilities to make these for us; then sell them as a group buy. What do you think about this? Don't volunteer me. I've only got left handed screwdrivers and SAE wrenches.

There is never a shortage of new areas to see and explore.

One of the great pleasures of my road trips is in the discovery of great places to drive or ride (sometimes by planning...sometimes by serendipity).

2. Cash On Delivery (for limited number of countries-see below)- just send us your order to: [email protected] and tell us you want C.O.D. option. In this case you need to send us your name and delivery address.

Countries with C.O.D. option: Germany, France, Iceland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Portugal, Swiss, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey."

Not bad... Cheaper than Happy Trails' $200 skidplate.

Edit: Just emailed Algard. Let's see what happens.

I'm not so sure about the time, but I am sure that someone does have the technical aptitude and mechanical abilities, but why reinvent the wheel. The design for the Algard was complete. And in my opinion the Algard skidplate was a nicer design than the Happy Trails.

There was a known issue with his receiving e mail from certain e mail providers. I wonder if my provider, Comcast, was one of them.

We need someone who has successfully communicated with him in the past to try and reach him now.

Last response from him was not enough business for this product. I would be interested if he produces more.
