Wheelstripes

Decided to put on yellow wheelstriping, matching the color of the bike. Then I took it for a ride and ended up taking some sunset pics

Looks good. I did mine in Reflective Red, I ride into work in the dark and the country boys worry me so I want to stand out.

Or was that look THEN leap?

If you do put them on, take your time to do it, my first try i wanted to work too quickly and I ended up with oval stripings x) Then I did it over again and now I'm happy with the results. Better to do it right the first time though

I put red on my 11 red V. Surface prep is key. Make sure you clean the surface thoroughly with alcohol or acetone to get any road/grease/grime off. Allow the surface to dry. Install the stripes slowly. Let them sit for several hours to set up. Then enjoy.

Looks nice. I want to do reflective red on mine. Any tips on how to get them straight, or which ones to buy? I have seen quite a few out there, and am hesitant to buy crappy ones. I cheaped out and bought a $10 tank pad on fleabay from china, and it looks awesome, but the rubber is detaching from the 3M already, and its not even warm out yet.

I like ProGrip. Works well and comes with a tool to help get it on straight.

Look for striping that comes in 1/4 sections for each side of the wheel. So 4 1/4 strips per side.. 8 per wheel.. 16 per bike. Getting a 1/4 of the stripe on at a time is MUCH easier to keep straight and not end up with an oval. The products that come in long lengths are difficult to install correctly for the novice amongst us.

Don't see the logic in that. Getting a 1/4 section on correctly is no easier than a long one. Besides, I'd be concerned about getting all the sections lined up end to end. If there are gaps then gunk & grime will get in the seams and the whole job looks like crap after a while. One continuous section only has one join.

To each is own, but I'd much rather have one long section. Just takes a little patience. Sounds obvious, but removing the wheel made the job a lot easier for me.

I started a different thread just a couple days ago about painting rims, but adding these may be just as effective. It seems to break up all that black on the tires and rims. How good do the stripes stick to the rim? I would hate to have them flying off....

Prep the rim to get it clean, NO grease, oil, wax or dirt, and the tape will stick. BOY will it stick after a couple of hot days it's a PITA to get off.
