Need some Luggage Help

I am purchasing my 09 Versys on Tuesday and I am trying to figure out what is the best set up for luggage. I am going to being doing an 80 mile round trip commute Highway, I am looking for a place to keep my Helmet and gear when at work, and a place for my laptop on the way. I have been looking at the GIVI stuff and like the way it looks. I guess my biggest question is saddle bags or trunk? I am coming from riding choppers so all of this is new to me. Which will provide ample storage and provide the least impact to the way the bike rides?

I really appreciate any advice you can provide.

Saddlebags, keep the weight low and evenly distributed. Happy trails!

I use soft saddlebags, and a tailbag that will hold a laptop (or function as a backpack). "Fieldsheer".

I love my GIVI trunk! I have no problem with weight. You really don't even know it's there. I use it everyday to and from work. When my wife and I go somewhere to eat we can get both our open face helmets in it. I'll probably end up getting GIVI sidecases soon so we can also store our jackets.

The biggest problem will be fitting your helmet in (assuming you're going to wear a full face lid). Assuming you're carrying a 15" or smaller laptop, I'd suggest a set of Givi E-21 saddlebags and take the helmet into the office with you as the most economical set-up. If you just have to leave the helmet on the bike, you'll need a big trunk or a BIGGG set of saddlebags.

I have the Givi V-35 hardbags on my V. They work great for me and we're easy to install. No leaks and they look good and really fit the bike well. What I like about them too is to get the key out you have to lock the bags. I didn't understand why at first but you cannot take off with the bags unlocked, so no more bags opening when your on the freeway! They have been fool-proof so far.
