H&B crash bars on '09 problem

I got the crash bars today and put the left side bar up against the bike to see how they would fit and it looks like it won't fit because the cover just below the tank is in the way. Am I just not reading the instructions properly? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm Thinking it may be the cover to the anti pollution Device some of you guys have fitted as standard..I'll try and find shot of it on the forums here but I'm sure it can be trimmed to allow you to fit the bars.

No problem, Sambamboo.

Thanks for the info guys. It looks like I have to trim the cover over the charcoal filter. Damn California emission crap.

Well I put them on this afternoon and I just pushed the charcoal filter cover up and jammed it in place. I was able to put the screw back in but the two pins that fit in the rubber grommets are not in. I'll ride it and see if it works loose and if it does I'll take it off and trim it. I would hope H&B would make a change in their design at some point. They look good on the bike and will give the desired protection so I'm happy.

Here is a picture of the cover installed without cutting.
