Cheapo Radiator Guard

I have been considering adding a radiator guard and few seem to fit my 2008. Also the commercial ones are a little pricey. Someone earlier mentioned fashioning a radiator guard from Home Depot gutter guard. Last week I was at Home Depot in the gutter area and saw a likely candidate. It cost me a whopping $4.50 for a enough to make four guards. If you cut it to length and remove two bends, it fits perfectly with a lip not only to make it more rigid, but to help hold it in place. It will probably work for 1000 cc and 300 cc models. Getting the bends out is pretty easy if you have a rubber mallet, a one foot piece of flat steel and a hard surface. The screen is some sort of powder coated steel and is relatively easy to bend and rigid enough to do the job. Secure it in place with some wire ties and it's ready to go. I like the look of it better better than the commercial ones. The black color should go with any paint scheme.

Excellent idea. I was looking at some of the commercial ones but worried about air flow. This is cheap and function, woohoo

I did the same with some alloy stuff I got at a metal shop though I made a slip on border that I secured to the grill. Then zip-tied it to the bike.

I used a piece of plastic mesh screen (yarn crafter's material) and just zip stripped it to the radiator. Seems to work ok and was cheap (the wife had some in her craft kit).

Great ideas all around. Just bought a 2009 and need to add something to the radiator.

Thanks for the ideas.
