Gen3 windscreen on a Gen2 V650? Why not?
So, I have a 2011 Versys project bike, going to have honda CRF 450r front end, spokes, a Terry's custom flat seat... some color changes and style changes that may help conceal it's origins. Not looking to pass it off as anything other than a V, just want casual observers to take a second look, maybe get a few head scratches or wrong guesses....
But, I digress.
So, I was looking at the screen on my 2015.. It's a Puig, but it has a cut out along the bottom, just like the factory one, that seems to match the 2010 to 2014 headlights better. Well, the V1000 started early in Europe, had a headlight like a 2010-14 V650, and used the same screen that is now on both bikes.
Well well, lets look at that then... can we make brackets to fit it on the 2011?
Gee, why not adapt some 2015 brackets to fit the 2011? Would it work? Lets get some off of ebay and find out.
Add a couple of extra holes in the brackets, a couple to put some extra well nuts in the fairing cover... twist the brackets slightly in a vice...
It's not rocket science.
It fits.. it works.. it's rock steady.. it actually works better on the 2011 (the Puig) than on the 2015.
I rode last night to work and back this morning, visor wide open the whole time, just a nice breeze. I was both pleased and pissed... that Puig was a lot better than the completely useless stock screen on my 2015, but it was still quite "buffety".
I have ordered all the parts to put the stock '15 screen on the '11... smaller will be better on a dirt oriented bike, and if I pull the Kawi sticker off, it will change up the front profile a bit too. Just hope it works better on the older bike than it did on the new generation.
If'n I do it, I gunna git a wippin .... OK! I do it!!!
