I Made The V35's Look Good!

So I bought a bike with a set of V35s. The prior owner had dropped it and scratched the right side trim horribly. I decided to try to fix it myself before coughing up the $130 (shipped) for the Trim Sets. It was also a great opportunity to get rid of the shiny Trim (which I hated). I decided to give it some texture while I was at it. I pulled the trim covers off (Top and Bottom) and added texture with a spray can of Rustoleum Multi-Color textured paint. Then I covered the trim with a bottle of Rustoleum Satin (Matte)Black. Looks perfect now!

Here is my project from start to finish:

Before I Pulled Them Off The Bike:

After I JB Welded (Epoxy) Them and Sanded Them Down To A Smooth Finish:
https://picasaweb.google.com/1163063...76705504618226

After I Painted Them With Texture and Then With Satin Black: $15
https://picasaweb.google.com/1163063...77044631938450
https://picasaweb.google.com/1163063...76908231589922
https://picasaweb.google.com/1163063...76804947776690

Now the Tops and Bottoms Match!!!! You won't get that with the OEM Matte Black Trim Sets. I am one happy camper! On top of that....it was fun. I did both sides. Cost me less than $15.

Thank you,

Choppastyle

Life is short, a midget told me that.

Nice job. I've got some that need some work, too. I'll have to follow your lead.

They look great.

A couple questions for you...

Did you use the JB Weld as filler? Is there a special JB Weld product for plastic?

What specific paint did you use? Was it black textured paint with another coat of black satin on top?

I just finished redoing mine as well. I prefer the painted matching gloss look personally so I went that way.
The cases were already painted, but they were what I called a "20ft paint job" as they looked good from beyond 20ft. There was cracking in the clear coat, scuffs from my boots getting on/off, and some rock chips.

So I sanded the old paint off, and repainted with Krylon Fusion in "RED PEPPER". It matches the 08' V quite well.

The new paint was wet sanded to remove any orange peel and make it perfectly smooth.

Finally a clear coat was applied. Again Krylon Fusion brand. Last I used a orbital buffer to give a final awesome shine to the panels.
