Head light idea thread.

I love my '09 Versys. I don't like my headlight's look that much, never have.

Compared to more traditional lights it seems weird. I like weird, but I don't feel like the light has great aesthetics.

Other people obviously seems to agree.

Solutions I've seen on these forums include:

Removing it-

Decorating it-

Building your own front-end/bike-

I'll admit it could be worse:
The ER6n isn't exactly the most attractive face-

The BMW R1200 GS is eyeballing you, because it's a travesty to modify the master bike in any manner outside what it's manufacturers say you can modify it.

The 1st generation KLR had an ugly old square headlight-

People and companies changed it in many ways, including off the shelve products-

Could you take the versys-

And do something similar (excuse the bad photochop)

I'm thinking about modifying a KLR solution for the KLE. I haven't had much experience with what is essentially sculpting composites. I also might try to tackle it with a nuts and bolts method ala tailgun or jdrocks. Of course I know it'll have to be one part welding/mechanical and one part art. You have to get the shade tree engineering right. So you still have an instrument cluster plus wind dampening, and have it not crack or fall off.

Please excuse the pictures lifted off google images and these forums...
Some of them I took myself. I know one belongs to jdrocks, another to Tailgun. The others are random things I've saved that have inspired me.

They are used only as examples.

Anyone got any good ideas or do anything different than listed here?

I would be hesitant about doing anything to reduces the wind protection unless you never ride on the highway. An upright bike like the V needs wind protection on the highway.

To each his own I guess...I kinda like the Versys headlight because it is unique.

I don't care foe the KLR refit....looks like some bazaar bird or Mardi Gra Mask..

but like I said to each his own...

I did the skull on mine....had to take it off because the vinyl was bubbling and was afraid for the plastic lens but I plan on redoing it this winter.

Now that was one awesome piece of 're-engineering'

Yes the "V" is ...odd in the 'face'..(I love 'odd')...but I think that's its charm, and why it gets mistaken for Bimmers, ducatis, Buells and Aprilias!
Definitely in good company if ya ask me...

That's cool, it takes a lot of the squareness out of the center lamps.

Mardi Gra mask is a cool concept, I didn't think about it like that. We have our own Mardi Gra celebration here in Gulf Coast Texas and I like New Orleans. I don't know if I want to integrate that into my bike, but it's a cool way to refer to bikes with beaks.

Your blue photo-chop looks cool, but I'm sick of that pseudo beak/fender.

Here's who I would like my Versys headlight to be:

<---- You know what I'll say to do. I've also recently removed the windscreen brackets and made a little hump over the gauge cluster. Should have some pictures up soon.

btw, thanks for using one of my pics as an example.

Falling down is your bodies way of saying you just screwed up.

Not mine. I found it in the German advertisements. It's a decent price if you are interested.

Thanks for the info, Ivan.
Don't know that I would pull the trigger...want to do an 'under-tail conversion' first....but it is an intriguing Mod.
Peace.

Sorry, but I think it looks hoaky. It is just a mask with built-in lights.

I loved JDrocks concept so much i followed his lead, easily build with a bit of aluminium angle etc. and patience. interestingly its quite nice at normal highway speeds ..not as much buffeting as the standard screen.

What do you think of this?

I cut a template and then took a tinted window cling that we no longer need in the car to shade the kids. I cut two pieces and applied with a bit of soapy water. They stayed in place all day yesterday, but I suspect if I get caught in the rain they'll fly off.

I think it makes the light's 'wings' just a bit less noticeable.
