Poor Man's Highway Pegs

Ok, after chasing Highway pegs around I just decided to make my own. They are not the most "beautiful" things, but work quiet well so you purist can keep looking elsewhere.

If you don't like what you have when you finish, simply take the off and reinstall your original motor mount bolts and go about your business.

Hope this helps some of you.

Nicely done Don! Want to make me a set? I've got NO welding skill's or equip.

If you want to make some spare sets and sell them let me know... I'm good for one set for sure!

Take care,
Jim

I did something similar on my Magna, but easier and a wee bit better looking... Walmart has S/S pegs for putting on the rear axle on BMX bikes for stunts... Very easy to put on the motor mount... $12 or something like that...

Thanks for the information and I'm going to check old Walmart out. You're a good man Charlie Brown!

Well I went to Walmart to check out the S/S pegs for bikes and the problem is they are way too short. You need about 7" out from the motor mounts in order to get your feet on them comfortably because of the way the fairings stick out. Thanks for the idea anyway.

Looks like they will work fine. A little high for my long legs but its not my bike. As a devils advocate do you think the engine mount will hold up if you were to have a drop or slow speed off? I would think the extra torque that would put on the engine mount would cause the casting to break off. Not a cheap fix.

Life is tough. Life is tougher if you are stupid.

It think they will hold up fine in case of a slow speed drop. In case of a high speed drop, well.............you have more problems than worrying about an engine mount. The impact will be absorbed by the frame mounting for the most part and what is transfered to the engine will then be transferred to the other side frame mount. I think you'd have to break the frame before the engine mounts. Good to be concerned though.
