A vote for Motech crash bars

My girlfriend had her first down on her 2012 Versys about 30 miles after we installed the crash bars.

Had come off the highway and stopped at a light. When it turned green we started moving (15 mph) and had a car from behind run right through us at triple the speed.

I was ahead and found room in the left lane, but my girlfriend didn't have as much room and had to lay it down low side.

Driver kept going, got a portion of the plate. A witness too. She saw it happen and yelled for the guy to stop as he passed her but he wasn't having it.

Girlfriend is fine, a bit shook up and sore a day later. Shoei helmet and padded Dainese jacket had barely a scratch. Motech bars didn't just save fairing and engine bits, but gave her space to protect her leg as she went with the bike.

Bars took the brunt. Mirror and indicator scratched but functional. Windscreen cracked.

Biggest disappointment was a broken peg, which made the ride home tougher.

Upper fairing got rash, but looks cheap to replace.

Aftermarket exhaust got the same treatment.

Very happy with the bars, could've been a lot more damage, to the bike and my girl.

Thank you Motech, best post-crash hug I could ever hope for.

They protect the bike and you can mount do-hickeys to them....what's not to like?

Thank you,

Choppastyle.

Life is short, a midget told me that.

Glad that there's only repairing & not healing.
Stuff like this reminds us of how vulnerable we are & how STUPID people can be

Make sure you replace the helmet, even if it's just a little scratched. There might have been some small impact, and it will compromise the helmet.

Bikes are replaceable, limbs are not. It's such a shame that there are people out there that think running bikes off the road is sport. Glad you both are ok!

Thanks for the kind words.

Got the police report, which confirms that the driver fled the scene via 2 witnesses. Tomorrow someone will be by to assess the damage.
Hoping this wont raise her insurance rate, we will see.

I looked up the costs of all the parts and was surprised how cheap they are! Anyone replace an upper fairing on their bike? bike bandit (and others) say 30 bucks! I noticed the decal is separate, but is that it? looks like both '12 versys's (versyi?) had a black upper fairing.

I see the upper cowlings at 149$ each...You probably were looking at a bracket or something....if it was that cheap I would convert my 2011 red versys to a black one in no time

Glad no one was hurt. Yea the cowling is over 100 bucks new. With my wreck the insurance did replacement cost at new prices. Had a small scratch on the yoshi pipe they paid for a new one a small scratch on the swingarm they paid i think it was over $800.00 for a new one etc, etc. Still have the exhaust and swingarm on the bike. Got the parts off ebay at really good prices. The only part i couldn't get there was a new brake lever. I spent less than $500.00 putting it back together and $ 200.00 of that was for a Tall Tinted Parabellum Windscreen.

2009 Blue Versys.

ah yes, i was looking at the wrong thing, I was looking at 36001 here http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmot...4181#sch731784

$150 seems more in line, still not awful. Will see how insurance wants to handle it.

Thanks.

at home today as my office is on Boylston, right after the marathon finish line as is part of the crime scene.

Adjuster came by today with a check for $1,100.she is not at fault as there were witnesses who confirmed the accident in the police report. figured to replace the fairing, peg and screen. leave the crash bar rash as a reminder, and the rest for a new Arai for her head.

thanks for all the concern, hope to be out riding in may.
