'17 V 650 Changing Tires- Not sure what size I can run

I am looking to change my tires. I understand what the numbers mean as far as rim size goes but as for the other two I have no idea... I am looking at Shinko 705's or the Heidenau K60. Would a 120/90/17 work on a stock rim that calls for 120/70/17? Same concept for the back. I appreciate any input on other tires that are a 50/50 or more. I don't ride the pavement aggressively where I need a better road tire.

Cheers!

I use a Shinko on the front and a Motoz on the back. The Shinko front will give you a very long life 15K mile or more, the Motoz I've gotten about 8K miles and am only half way through the tread. I think both are 70's and stock rims.

Motoz 150/70-17 Tractionator GPS Rear
Shinko 705 120/70R- Front

I think you'd 'foul' the front fender w/ a 120/90. I run a 130/80 x 17 rear on the front of my '08 w/ the fender raised 1.75" I believe, as well as a 150/70 x 17 rear on BOTH my V650s.

The 130/80 gives VG mileage - I got 28,799 miles w/ a Metzler Tourance front, and now running Shinko E705s, w/ 18,xxx miles on the present front, and it has a way to go!

W/ a Tourance REAR 150/70 x 17 I got 14,125 miles, and w/ a Shinko E705 11,987 miles.

Thanks Eddie! I have read all 3 of your D2d RR's and am taking that trip in June of 2021. Which tire do you prefer between the Metzler and the Shinko?

You should have a GREAT ride to D2D '21. I don't know WHETHER or not I'll ever ride to it again, BUT I'd sure like to! Great ride, great people, good times!

I don't have a preference between the Metzler and the Shinko. They BOTH work well for me but the Shinkos are significantly cheaper! BTW I ran the 'old' Tourances, not the Tourance NEXT, and both brands are difficult to install/remove, so you want them quite warm before doing the work, and I ALWAYS run them at 36psiF, 42psiR.

Dear Gerharz14,

Do see the images. I think you'll get everything from them

Thanks Eddie! I went with the Shinko's! Got a set for $165 on Motosport.com

I am running Shinko 120/70/17 on front and 150/70/17 on back. Love them, did about 9000km on my current set, front is down by 25% and have left another 1-2000 km on the rear.

Glad to hear! That is what I went with. It is currently the dead of winter here in WI so I haven't got to ride on them yet.
