Hi guys, i decided to replace my rear sprocket since i ride most of the time on highways, and get that speedometer accurate... I'm really not decided whether a 43t or 44t even though i have done some extensive research with the search function on the forum. I know most of the people go with the 44t but i read somewhere that it "only" drops the rpms around 200-300. Not much to me?! And i'm affraid to have some diffculties to start in first or loose to much power on 6th gear with the 43t. I have done a +1t front sprocket(worth 3t on the rear) on my stock Yamaha Raptor 700 atv and saw big difference. So much that the last gear(5th) was acting like an overdrive. I almost had no acceleration. But that was before any mods i have done to it. Now it is fine because i have more power for that gear setup.
So my questions are: i would like to install a JT because of the low price but i think they only make a 43t for the V right?
Any parts number for a 44t and lowest price(best place to order it).
This is not the answer your looking for, but I thought it might help. I replaced my front sprocket with a 16T yesterday and GPS checked my speedo today. Indicated 60mph resulted in a 61.5 on the GPS, rear sprocket is stock.🍻
15/43 is 6.97674 % taller than stock 15/46... 15/44 is 4.54545 % taller than stock.
Kimpex (Canada) distributes "R.O.C." rear steel sprockets in 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46 and 47 tooth.

I've ran a 44 for the past 10,000 miles or so with complete satisfaction. I'm leaving out next week for a 3,000 mile trip and thought I'd gear it a tad taller for cruising on the interstate when I have to.
I ordered a OEM 16t and was gonna run a stock steel sprocket but decided to leave the 15t up front and go to a 43 steel rear.
My son had a ZX6R and has a slew of left-over rear sprockets that are like new and I just "borrowed" his OEM steel 43.
I can tell the difference down low but it does help out cruising. I'll know when I get back if I'm gonna stick with a 43 or 44 for day in, day out riding.
BTW: If anyone wants to buy my brand new OEM 16t and washer just PM me.
In my view changing the rear sprocket is a easy job if you have a wheel stand as wheel can be taken off Versys in leass than 5 min and sprocket is easy to fit, the front sprocket can be a real issue to get off the first time if it has not been off since the factory.
I am back to stock gearing at 27000 km as it was cheaper for me to buy complete stock kit as one package (front and rear sprocket plus chain), run on 44 t rear from 15000km to 27,000km.
Before I put the 44T rear on mine I read a thread where it would bring the speedo up to spot on. I finally took my wifes Tomtom on a ride with me the other day and decided to ck it out myself. The GPS was reading 70 and the speedo was indicating 72mph.
I went with the 45T because I have a taller 150/70 rear ContiTrail tire, which is about the same as a 44T with stock 160/60 tire, and ideal for highway riding. Any more (16/46> or 15/43>) seems a bit overkill. It's geared a bit too high at times for tight off-roading. Going back to a 160/60 won't hurt... So, I wouldn't go higher than 15/44 with a 160/60.
I put a 43t Sunstar ($45 frommy local dealer) and am glad I went that much smaller. Mellower on the highway, a bit less compression braking. My wife says it feels better and it has reduced the pitching a bit, just by having a few less shifts to get up to speed. Dropped the revs 300-400 rpm which doesn't sound like a lot but it makes a difference. Now each gear is more useful - it used to feel like each gear was just a stepping stone to the next gear. Wheelies are not as effortless, but now it carries them farther. Rush hour slog is a bit worse, but that is the least enjoyable part of my riding, the last thing I want is to prioritize that. I am pleased with the 43 tooth.
Hi guys, i decided to order a 43t along with a bike stand. Will have those tomorrow. I will install the spocket as soon as i can and will give you some feedback. I really want to drop the revs since i use the V to go to work and it is mostly highways to get there. Also, i want to do the Blue Ridge highway in Virginia in September. I live in province of Quebec, Canada so it is at least a 12 hour trip on highways. I will do the seat mod in the next few days too. I want to thank you all for your opinions and infos given, especially kvman50 for his nice review on the 43t!
Note that you will not "see" a drop in your revs by changing the rear sprocket. Since the speedometer is driven off the transmission output shaft, any change in the sprockets will not affect the relationship between the speedometer and the tachometer.
The change to a 43t rear will make about a 7% change in your speedometer, which will make it really close to accurate. So, before, when your speedo said you were travelling 70mph at 5K revs, you were actually travelling about 65mph. Now when the speedo says 65, you are actually going about 65 with less revs.
Unfortunately, the odometer is relatively accurate with stock sprockets, and the change to 43t will make it read 7% low. So if it says you traveled 200 miles, you actually went about 214. This can make your fuel mileage look lower, so add 7% to whatever fuel mileage calculation you come up with to get a more accurate figure!
