Modifying the standard exhaust can.

Has anyone modified the standard exhaust can, so the bike sounds and breaths better? I really like the look of the standard can versus after market cans. Any info ? Thanks.

Greetings,

Iím new to this forum and I donít even own a Versys yet; but I will sometime in the fall of 08 or early 09 when the prices are way down, or so Iím hoping. Iíve been reading some of the posts about changing exhaust systems for your Versys but this would apply to any model of motorcycle and that is, you run the risk of VOIDING YOUR WARRANTY if your modifications cause damage to any other part of the motorcycle ie engine, wiring etc. So be aware of those implications before buying an expensive exhaust system.

Even if you buy your exhaust system from a dealer (theyíre in business to make money so they have no obligation to TELL OR REMIND you that you may be voiding your warranty) so take some advice from an old geezer and donít do it unless/until your warranty has terminated.

I like the sound of a good pipe myself but not at the expense of voiding my warranty---I can wait a year!

On the same note, once I get my Versys I will change the exhaust a bit; I personally want to use my bike truly as a dual purpose machine so I want the exhaust on the side and a bit higher in case I go through a stream boon dogging it.

Regards,
David

I bought a Hindle Supersport and it was really Loud (I shouldn't say that cause I.m trying to sell it). Anyway.. I then bought the stealth from Hindle. It is loud but nice. It gives a nice torquey sound. And the bike responds a lot more.

I now pop some (really easy and nice) wheelie with my versys. I bbought it about a month ago and now I shift it through 1st 2nd and 3rd. I drop it in third though. Not enough power/torque. Or not yet used to it. But I can pop a wheelie just on gas on 2nd gear with the Hindle pipe.

If you wanna listen to the pipe ; here is short clip (the one I wanna sell);

Ciao

Sounds great! I would like mine to be louder so people can hear me coming. How much are you asking for your old Supersport?

Hi all!
I replaced my bikes' exhaust with the Leo Vince Titanium one.
I can't say about performance improvement since the replacement took place after the first 1000 klms of the bike and now my bike has less than 4500 klms. However, it sounds a little better and looks better too!

Advice: don't try to compare the sounds of exhausts from youtube videos because the quality of the videos is not comparable from one to the other.

I just bought a take off from ebay-Since that pipe is $600+ to replce from Kawi, I wanted to use a take off. I gave $40 shipped for mine. I plan on taking it in to our shop and using the plasma cutter to get the ends off and see what can be removed. I may try to get some supertrapp style disc and try to make it tuneable-Will let you know how it turns out!! Only out $40 if I cant make it work!!

I would be very interested in this, too. My original idea was to cut open one end of the stock muffler and install a mix of perforated and closed medium-diameter tubing in the exhaust path (it circles around at least twice) to maintain exhaust path length but not lose so much pressure to baffles. I would like to keep the catalyzer and just get more sound, but since I do not possess the appropriate tools (i.e. plasma cutter), I installed one of Versys08's cherry bomb kits. It is nice, but I kinda wish I could do something with the stock can similar to what specialists do with the Buell muffler.

I vicariously cut with you!
