Anodizing my rear spring?

Is this possible? I am not familiar with the anodizing process and if it has to be any metals in particular or maybe it wont work on metals that flex etc - Would anyone happen to know if the rear shock spring on the Versys can be anodized? I was thinking a Kawi green to match my Versys since that combo looks great on the red V

I purchase anodized aluminum fixtures and jigs for my work all the time.

I assume the spring is steel. I am not aware of an anodize coating for steel. Steel is usually prepped then painted or powder coated.

Would the powder coating stand up fine to the flexing of the spring? I know paint would not but am not sure about powder coating???

Probably, but the spring might not stand up to the baking/curing of the powder coating.
Average curing time is 380-400 degrees F, which is certainly in the realm of affecting the spring steel's properties.

If it is a compression spring, powder coating can work, but for a tension spring the penetration of powder inside the coil is always a problem. Electrocoating is the best for finest throwing power. Powder coating has a tendency to chip while Electrocoating does not. Hydrogen embrittlement does not happen in powder coating or Electrocoating. The springs of good quality spring steel and properly heat treated are not affected by the baking temperatures of powder coating or Electrocoating (338 to 392 degrees F).

So in layman's terms Invader, I should be ok with either powder coating or electrocoating?

I've only seen anodizing used on aluminum. Never on steel.

Well - got it powder coated at a local shop for $40 and a very very close matching Candy Lime Green and it looks amazing - really sets the bike off!

I was headed down that road until I got my hugger, painted to match the swing arm...and only then came to terms with the silver spring but.....
