Electrical Mayhem Managed

Normally I'll go the "home grown" route when modding, but this time I'm glad I went with some pre-fabbed pieces.

In this case, I started off with a basic kit for installing a fuse block and two 12V outlets.

From Eastern Beaver (great stuff):

1. (1) Fusebox Lead, inline fuse - 18in
2. (1) Unfused Socket Lead - 24in
3. (1) Unfused Socket Lead - 60in
4. (2) Powerlet 12V Socket

From Fuzeblocks.com (also great stuff):

1. (1) FZ-1

This setup allows you to install one outlet under the seat and one in the dash with minimal effort. Routing the wires was easier than I thought it would be.Just follow the existing wire bundles. Easy. One thing I forgot was the posi-lock taps but I made do with what I had in the toolbox.

Pictures, pictures, pictures...

Here is where I tapped the license plate light for switched 12V. Very easy to get to.

Here is the overall view of the compartment. You can see the 12V outlet and where I stashed inline fuse for the lead from the battery (tucks in perfectly).

A shot of the 12V outlet in the dash.

And a shot from behind...

Now what else can I add...?

Those who hesitate are not only lost, but miles from the next exit.

Eastern Beaver does make great stuff and the service is fantastic. I love buying stuff from fellow riders.

Nice write up and pictures. I'm going to add a power outlet or two soon.

What are you planning on using the under seat outlet for?

That one will be constant 12V. Closer to the luggage, so I can leave my phone or whatever in there while parked. and the outlet is secure under the seat.

I got the idea from A2RON here on the board. Thanks, bro. Clever spot.
