Has anyone really had a problem with frame sliders?

I see the reason it could cause a problem but has anyone with sliders have some first hand experience? I have read countless posts and everyone assumes it will bend or break the frame due to the mounting location. Is there some good feedback where bikes have gone down and the slider saved the day without trashing the frame. Thanks guys

I just read an article in "BIKE" magazine on this subject. (July 2010 issue)

seems one point of view is that sliders cause more harm than good when the bike gos down at speed.
They tend to dig in and even launch the bike skyward causing more damage than without. ( depending perhaps on the particular design/shape of the 'bungs' them selfs).
maybe the work best at protecting the bike at low speed or static drops....

Food for thought.

I've gone down with frame sliders in my cbr and they helped a lot. But on the other hand the slider was secured to a major part of the frame holding the motor in. Not a little tab like the versys

which is why I mounted my sliders to he front engine mounts after drilling out to 7/16". I also run a homemade crashbar that only protects the radiator, so it's a 2-pronged approach. dumped it twice in the dirt and no damage...
