Died & won't restart

Riding today, underway for 1/2hr or so, hot weather, all running normally, was aware of a buzzing (thought it was the cowling).
Started to run rough, then felt it was missing, started to die with loss of power, then eventually died.
Tried to restart, turned a few times then died, did this a few times, but now won't kick over at all - engine spins, but no start.
Oil level good, coolant level good, pushed on coils - both tight, went around bike, pushing all connectors I could see, touched stator cover - it was very very very hot!
Allowed it to cool for a couple of hours, turns over but no kick!
I have lights and 12.4 volts showing on the battery, everything appears normal aside from no start.
To recap, all normal to dead in half mile and no restart.
Any ideas appreciated.

It shows 13-14 when running, 12.4 was after several crank attempts,
She swings fast, just no attempt to start.
Had been thinking stator (because cover was so hot) would a bum stator stop spark? It really seems more like fuel, will check fuses tomorrow.

Don't know but the hot stator cover would seem to be an indicator?
