What kind of mileage are you getting out of your brake pads?

16,xxx miles on my 2008 Versys and with a 2500 mile trip coming up at the end of July, I figured it was time to replace the brake pads.

I couldn't remember how thick the pads were originally, but they seemed like they were getting a little thin. So I ordered up a full set of EBC Sintered pads and got them installed today. To my surprise, the old pads weren't that much thinner than the new pads - there appears to be plenty of life left in them.

I did install the new pads, but I'll hold on to these stock pads and reuse them in the future if I'm in a bind.

Most of my miles are from commuting 40 miles a day in mixed traffic. My last bike my rear pads were paper thin at 12,xxx miles under the same riding conditions.

Just curious what others have gotten out of their pads. Here are a few photos of the old vs. new.

The old pads seem fine. Since the Versys has 2 front discs and engine braking helps alot , the brake pads could last a long time. On some commutes I hardly use the brakes at all. This al depends on your driving style ofcourse.

On my old bike new brake pads where as thick as the ones you are replacing now

Isn't that little slit in the pads the indicator of when the pads are worn? I hope so because I've always thought so and based my conclusions off of that!

Welcome Mdaniels,

The wear indicator will tell you when. Still looks okay from your pic.
