K&N 303 Oil Filter

On the oil filter it states torque between 8-12 Nm which is different from the owner's manual which states 13 ft-lb and which I am assuming refers to the OEM oil filter. If that assumption is correct what do I torque the new filter to, 8-10-12, hand tight?

hand tight should be tight enough, but I doubt that most torque wrenches are accurate enough for it to make a difference between 12 and 13.

I bought a motorcycle because my wife said that I couldn't! Now I have two and she still says I can't have another one!

Fair comment, but one was "8-12 Nm" and the other "13 ft-lb"

8 Nm = 5.9 ft-lb

12 Nm = 8.85 ft-lb

13 ft-lb = 17.61 NM

Although I have had Miss Jaffa (Burnt Orange 2007 Versys) for a while, I still have a lot to learn.

Go with the oil filterís spec. Itís predicated on the desired compression for that specific filterís gasket.

I use k&n filters because of the nut, makes getting on and off so much easier, I have always torqued around 12 ft lbs and have never had a problem

I saw today that Auto Zone carries KN-303 oil filters for the V. Not everyone lives near a dealer, I know I am 18 miles away from the nearest motorcycle dealer so it I nice to be able to find some common parts and supplies a block away some auto parts stores.

You can also get a Bosch 3300 there for about 5 bucks.

same filter for 2015?

Will the K&N 303 and the Bosch 3300 also fit the 2015's? I imagine so, but in case someone has other info. My 2015 650 LT should arrive any day. I want to get stuff ready with a couple filters and a filter wrench.
I am going to do the MotoMan break-in, which mean changing oil at 20 miles. Pretty much as soon as I get it home from the dealer.

Same engine so i would say yes...My old Versys and FJR used the same filter. So i just took this off the Versys and put it on the FJR. Haven't bought a filter since 2010....
