I did mine recently working from the '07 service manual I downloaded.

I could have been more careful with wiping the oil off the header pipe. I opted to clean the air filter, which was pretty dirty.

Going over the motor bolts that were exposed, I didn't even find any to be loose. My chain was still fine. Personally, I think they recommend too small a play adjustment, and I tend to run my chain a bit looser on advise that it helps the suspension work a bit better.

I have that annoying buzz in the fairing and found spots between the black plastic part of the cockpit and the red side fairings that were obviously abraided. I just put some high-tack masking tape in there temporarily to see if it wears through, and is actually something that needs to be padded. Of course, I didn't fix the buzz because I didn't see the better "buzz correcting" instructions here in the forums.

I also checked the frame motor mounts for cracks and didn't see any. I have not yet backed-out the mounting bolts to actually check the static gap.

I didn't find anything wrong with the bike (thankfully).

Smile 1st check up

About the only thing needed is an oil and filter change. Every thing else depends on hard you ride. the harder you ride the more you might have to do. Moto: ride easy.
Take care ride safe and long.

A tip about keeping oil off the header.

Get a length of aluminum foil and shape it so the oil funnels down into your drip pan. Then just throw the foil away.

1st service

Today was my first service for the V. I,ve put 552 miles on
it since I made the purchase. I thought it would be a good idea to
back to the dealer and let those guys do the first service. So I
took it in and they wanted to keep it three or four days. I did not want
to let them keep that long just to change the oil and tigthen the chain.
So I purcased the filter and oil 20/50 kawasaki premium oil,and I
know why they call it premium it,s the price you pay for it $6.50
a guart 35$ to change the oil in the V.(thst does include the filter)
Will defenitely swap to Castrol 20/50 next time and also look
for a after market filter. The dealer ship guys did a quick look
chains ok. It seems like Im good to go for while.

One thing that did bring a smile today was when I began to let the
the V graze around 6k rpm,s. I was zipping to 74 mph or so pretty
quickly. After seeing this I will probably be happy with 5k to 8k
range on the V, the little bike is pretty impressive to me.
