Direction LEDs Anyone???

Hi All,

Wondering if anyone change the directional bulbs to LEDs? I am thinking of doing this because I really like LEDs immediate on/off looks...

Anyone know what kind of bulbs they are? I am not able to find any info in owner manual and service manual at all !!!

Can I just buy LED and plug straight in? Any other modifications? If it is too much trouble, I probably wouldn't do it because I don't know how to...

Thanks!

there are replacement led-bulbs that fit the original housing. if you want to, you can change the entire blinker housing.
anyway, if you change to led-blinkers, you have to replace the original blinker relay with the electronic one to avoid blinking too fast. it can be bought on e-bay, it's not expensive and it is easily replaced (plug n' play). it is located under the left fairing somewhere around the kawasaki sticker.

here it is, or you can find it in Usa (this one is from UK i think)

LEDs do have that instant on/off characteristic, but the lenses on your Versys are designed for use with incandescent bulbs. Incandescents shine light in all directions, whereas LEDs point light in one direction. This is an important distinction. I bought a set of LEDs for the turn signals on my ST1300 and they were lousy. Instead of a full bright amber lens, the LEDs made several amber points of light. Incandescents were clearly superior, but only because the amber lens was designed to disperse an omnidirectional light source. Fortunately the vendor I bought the LEDs from honored its claim that "if these aren't the best turn signal bulbs ever, return them for a refund."

LED clusters designed for the job are great. The running/brake lights on the Versys are very noticeable. If you decide to change your turn signals to LEDs, you may be better off replacing the whole assembly with a dedicated LED signal, designed from the start as a turn signal.

I've been fooling with LEDs for a while. Sometimes they are brighter, sometimes not. The incandescent bulbs shine out in an almost hemispherical manner, so people on the side of the bike can see it blinking. However, a lot of the LEDs just shine straight ahead, so a reflector is needed to direct the lights to go hemispherical. Alas, no one makes reflectors.

Yet, if the LED is bright enough, stray light can/does spill out sideways. Generally, get the same color LEDs as the lens.

So, since LEDs are cheap, you should just buy them and experiment.

Go there: http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...rake-turn.html

Look for the 1156 for single blikers like turn signals and 1157 for the double blinkers like brake lights and running/turn light combos.

Oh yes, do report back on your likes and dislikes.

LED Blinkers

Don't know why you want LED's for the V. The wife blinkers are really bright, my Vstrom could be barely seen. Those have been all replaced by LED's and I had to install a Relay as well, low draw made the lights flash faster, similar to what happens when one bulb goes out on the car.

Does anyone know anything about "Dragon Lights?" Check out: http://www.dragonlights.net/DragonLights/Default.aspx

I want to put on a pair of running lights on the front, and some additional lights on the side or rear. The Dragon Lights give running lights; stop lights; and turn signals. All meant to be mounted on the end of the handle bars. I'm thinking about mounting off the hand guards.

I have added LED's lights to both our bikes. It looks nice, but the main goal was to be seen. The more we do to be seen, the longer we'll live.

here is a little help for you all. i know the name makes it looks like a porn site but trust me it isn't. they are a cover name for and LED manufacture and have some killer prices. that being said they are located in Hong Kong so it takes about 2 weeks to get the stuff from them. They are on the up and up though. i have ordered from them a few times now and plan to keep on ordering from them in the near future.
