Headlight Won't Work

About three months back, the small lights on either side of my 2008 Versys low beam (secondary lights), would sporadically not work. If I turned the key slightly backwards, they would turn on. Yesterday, when I started the bike, the low beam did not turn on, but the secondary lights did. I just turned the bike off, restarted and all lights worked. Once I arrived home, I shut off and restarted the bike numerous times. Now, the secondary lights ALWAYS come on with no "jiggling" of the key, but neither low beam nor high beam will work. I checked the fuses, and none were bad. I've read about bad stators on the site. But I'm thinking it might be a bad ignition switch. Any thoughts or direction would be greatly appreciated. The bike has a little over 27000 miles. Thanks.

Switch section screwed on bottom of key barrel can probably be opened to clean and re-lube the balls and contacts.

Thanks invader. So are you saying that based upon my description of the problem, you think it IS an ignition switch issue?
